How does CEREC work for obtaining crowns in Glen Allen, VA?
The dental field has come a long way over the years, allowing dental professionals to provide patients with amazing restorative solutions when problems arise. Dr. Olivia Hart and her team at Richmond Family Dentistry in Glen Allen, VA are here to help. One of the ways in which patients can benefit from technology when repairing their smiles is with the use of CEREC.
What is CEREC?
CEREC is CAD/CAM technology that is used right in the dental office to create dental crowns, bridges, and veneers. Instead of requiring dentists to take impressions of the prepared teeth, place temporary restorations, and then send out the impressions to a laboratory many miles away for weeks of waiting, patients can now wait in the dental office for their new restorations – completed in just minutes! This saves everyone involved both time and money.

How does it work?
First, patients are evaluated to determine if they can benefit from a restoration. If this is the case, they have impressions completed which are digitized into the computer. The computer is then used along with a milling device to create the new restoration from a block of porcelain. Once completed, the dentist can take the new restoration from the machine and bond it into place. The entire process, from start to finish, takes approximately thirty minutes.
Are CEREC crowns as durable and beautiful as laboratory-fabricated alternatives?
Of course! Dr. Olivia Hart would only provide CEREC restorations if they met the same quality standards as traditional methods of creating these ceramic restorations. The CEREC-fabricated restorations are strong and natural-looking, but completed in a fraction of the time!
Why might patients consider CEREC restorations?
The primary benefits of CEREC restorations are:
- Short wait times for restorations
- Eliminating the placement of temporaries
- Save time and future appointments
Am I a candidate for CEREC restorations?
All patients who need restorations may benefit from CEREC. Patients will need to undergo preparations for their teeth before the impressions can be completed and used to fabricate the new restorations.
What types of restorations can be made with CAD/CAM software?
- Dental crowns
- Dental bridges
- Dental veneers
